Taipa house renovation, in the historic center of Aljezur
This project entailed the complete transformation of a traditional taipa house in Aljezur’s old quarter, overlooking the beautiful Várzea valley.
The renovation was extensive, involving significant structural interventions — including the redesign of the roofline to create a new terrace that opens the house fully to the surrounding landscape.
Throughout the renovation, we maintained the original character of the local architecture while introducing a relaxed, contemporary touch that would reflect the personality of the clients.
We used noble and welcoming materials such as wood for the ceilings, windows, and furniture; clay for the roof tiles and Santa Catarina flooring; and natural stone to add texture and authenticity.
The result is a home that honors its heritage while embracing modern comfort—rooted in place, yet open to new ways of living.

In the new layout, we successfully positioned the kitchen and bathroom at the same level as the entrance—unlike the previous configuration—creating a more fluid and functional living space. We preserved two bedrooms and added a generous storage area that can also serve as a laundry room. The house now includes a rear patio with a second entrance, that leads directly to the terrace.

“It was a pleasure working with Sandra. We were impressed by her designs and ideas, her local supplier network, and her ability to solve all kinds of problems quickly and in a very professional and more than satisfactory way. She always supported us in every doubt and question we had.
She managed our entire project with enthusiasm and friendliness. We are grateful and feel absolutely comfortable in our little paradise now.”
